1. Squarespace has their own SEO checklist that is particularly helpful when you’re in the early stages of setting up your website.
2. You should come up with 5-10 keywords that repeat through your website, and use them as much as you can. There are online tools that can help with this such as KWFinder.
3. Label/tag every image that appears on the website incorporating the chosen keywords. (But written in a sentence, not just random words because the search engines are smart and they will catch you!)
4. Write something in the SEO description box (this can be found on square space by clicking the gear icon next to each individual page, and then clicking the "SEO" tab on the left). It usually does it automatically, but you can improve your SEO by typing in descriptions that include most/all of your keywords.
5. Incorporate backlinks (link to other websites and try to get websites to link back to you).
6. Blog often, so you have new content being added to your site because that will keep you active in Google's mind and your page will show up. If you don't change your website Google will think you're inactive and won't share your page. Include your keywords and backlinks in your blogs as much as possible!
7. Add subtitles to your pages that include your keywords.
8. Google "SEO tutorial" and get up-to-date on the latest information because it's always changing!
